Wine tasting for people who like to explore at the Wine tasting for people who like to explore at their own pace.

Self-serve wine bars offer a different way to follow your curiosity, compare unfamiliar bottles and learn what you enjoy one pour at a time. At @highlandswine and @nomadic_wine, that freedom led us beyond our usual choices and to a few unexpected discoveries.

For my latest story for @foodrepublic, I spoke with five wine and sensory experts about the common mistakes that can shape a food and wine pairing.

The full story explores 14 things people often overlook when pairing food and wine, along with what to consider before opening your next bottle.

With insight from @sanfranciscowineschool, @chemosensationalist, @sommosapien, @cmtanghe and @sommvivant.

There’s something about experiencing wine alongs There’s something about experiencing wine alongside the food, farms and people connected to it that gives you a different perspective on what’s in your glass.

Throughout this trip, those connections kept becoming part of the conversation, whether we were sitting down for a meal, walking through a vineyard or tasting something new.

And somewhere along the way, my BFF and I may have found the theme for our next trip. Sparkling.

A few details from Willamette Valley I wanted to s A few details from Willamette Valley I wanted to share.

The garden at @brookswinery was full of flowers and pollinators, @amaterrawines had incredible views, and @sokolblosser had vines surrounding the patio.

@evening_land was incredibly quiet and serene, while @domainedrouhinoregon had a Secret Garden that I ended up wandering through on my own, overlooking the vineyards.

We stayed in Newberg, so @tastenewberg became part of the experience too, from the wineries to the time we spent around town.

Thank you to everyone who hosted us and to @oregonwine for having us.
