Buy or make real espresso in order to enjoy the best iced latte.
By espresso, I mean that very concentrated form of coffee that boasts of a thick body, acidic flavor, and a thick foam on top known as the crema. Espresso is made most often with a machine, but can also be achieved manually. I understand that not everyone has the luxury of having an espresso machine in their home.
So another great option is to head to your local coffee shop and order a double shot of espresso. Higher-quality espresso will lead to a better-tasting iced latte.
The espresso you buy from a cafe will most likely be higher quality than any espresso alternatives you can make at home. While it’s certainly possible to produce a coffee concentrate from a Moka pot, a drip coffee maker, or an AeroPress, the fact of the matter is, these options do not make true espresso. Using true espresso will make the difference between an okay iced latte and an excellent honey vanilla iced latte.
If you would like to learn how to make espresso with an espresso machine, see my step-by-step espresso-making tutorial here.
Add the honey right after the espresso so it will liquify faster.
Drinking clumps of honey is just not ideal. In order to get the honey to melt quickly, you should add it right after you add the espresso to your drinking glass.
Don’t add any of the other ingredients before the honey because it will lower the temperature of the espresso, which will slow the process of liquifying the honey.
Add just a dash cinnamon to make it even tastier!
To make this drink even tastier, our fans suggest adding just a dash of ground cinnamon. In baking terms, a dash is equivalent to about 1/8 tsp. But feel free to add more or less depending on how much cinnamon you like.
I would suggest adding the ground cinnamon right after you pull the espresso. So this would be around the same time you add the honey. This way, you can mix the cinnamon in while the espresso is still warm and hopefully it will disintegrate slightly more than if you added it after the milk.
And to make it prettier, you can garnish this drink by adding a dusting of cinnamon (or nutmeg!) to the top of your glass – voila !
Use the Oat Barista Blend from Califa Farms for best results.

By far, the best oat milk I’ve had is Califia Farms’ Unsweetened Oat Barista Blend. It blends SO WELL with iced coffee (it also froths well for making hot espresso drinks). This oat milk also, though unsweetened, has a hint of natural sweetness (in my opinion), which complements the honey and vanilla in this iced latte very nicely.
Definitely go out of your way to find this brand of oat milk (specifically the barista blend) because it will make all the difference in the final result. I’ve tried a ton of different oat milk brands, and this is the best I’ve yet to taste.
You can buy Califia Farms Barista Blend Oat Milk on Amazon by the case, which is what I do. I’m subscribed to a monthly supply (6 cartons), which gives me a 5% discount.
Note: Califia Farms is not sponsoring this post — I just really love their oat milk!
As always, add cold brew coffee ice cubes!
Add a few cold brew coffee ice cubes to finish the drink off. I always suggest this in my iced coffee or iced latte recipe posts because it will keep your drink from getting watery once the ice cubes melt.
When regular ice melts, water is unintentionally added to your drink. When you add coffee ice cubes instead, more coffee is added. Who doesn’t want that?

Use a glass straw or stainless steel straw.
When your drink is ready to serve, use a glass straw to enjoy the purest taste. Glass won’t impart any other flavors (assuming it’s clean).
Etee, a company passionate about reducing plastic, sells beautiful reusable glass straws. It’s the straw that’s pictured above. As you can see, I have the one in the teal color, and I find it’s the perfect size and feel for my iced coffee drinks. Buy etee’s beautiful glass straws here!

Hi Joy! This jar was recycled – it came from something that was once in my pantry, and I saved the glass because I also liked the shape! The closet thing I could find online was this – https://amzn.to/3MYG64a. I hope it helps! Thanks so much getting in touch! Happy Brewing!
